A lot of nurse’s in India give up their work for the reason of getting poor wages, lack of favorable working background and mistreatment due to unregulated and ailing health division. A staff of a private nursing institution associated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore reveals that she could not take the attitude of the doctors anymore , and also mentioned that she never gets respect from them reason for her to quit the job. She added she was working on the said hospital for 7 years after getting her nursing diploma. She also stated that her mom works on the same profession and also experienced the same treatment, although her mom was able to adjust and make compromises for over 30 years.
A number of hospitals in India don’t have an area for nurses to take a break or even change their clothes. Paying overtime is also not one of their benefits. The nurse – patient ratio in India is poor, ranging from 1:30 and much worse in general wards which could go up to 1:50, which frequently results in their having to work for longer hours.
Recently, after long-drawn-out protests by All India Nurses Federation, several hospitals state they are taking procedures to pay overtime.
According to the nurses, the dreadful situation they have right now has been basically worsen by the reality that as a group they have not been able to join together since traditional trade unions have been ignoring their working rights.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has recently approved their Saudization or Nitagat Policy. This is their solution for the increasing number of unemployed Arab citizens. The Nitagat Policy requires their local companies to hire their fellow countrymen instead of expatriats. The regulation is classified into several categories depending on their performance in hiring Saudis. The Red and Yellow categories are prevented from renewing work visas of their foreign workers thus forcing these firms to terminate their expatriats and hire their locals within 9 to 11 months. The Green category on the other hand, is allowed to choose and sponsor visas of foreign workers from the red and yellow categories without approval from their employers.

It is quite unfortunate that the ratio of children having developmental disorders are now increasing in number worldwide. This situation has brought about an emergence of one area of nursing which is equally interesting and fulfilling. Developmental Disability Nurses are now hunted in the United States, Canada and even by employers in Australia whose embassy have just announced to stop their recruitment of foreign nurses until 2013.

If you are one of those nurses in the Philippines who are planning to seek a nursing job in Australia, this is somewhat a bad news. You need to wait for at least two years before your application to be approved.
Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Rod Smith recently visited Cebu City and explained why such thing is happening. He stated that this is all due to a consolidation movement of Australia’s public healthcare sector. “From now until 2013 there will be no significant demand for nurses outside of Australia,” he said. He also stated that at present, there are at least 250,000 Filipinos working and living in their country and majority of them are working as nurses and other professions of the medical field.
